First of all please introduce you and your band to our readers...

It‘s Fabio D‘Amore from Pathosray here!
We‘re an Italian Prog metal band, and we‘ve just released our first full-lenght, self titled!
We came from Northern Italy, and we hope to spread our music all around the world!

Please name the most important highlights in your band´s career so far…

I think the day „Pathosray“ came out on the market …

And which are the low´s?

The period when Luca Luison, the old guitarist, one of the former members, left the band without any clear reason, during the recordings of our album …

Please tell us something about the songwriting process in your band?

The music and the lyrics are mostly composed by Ivan, the drum player.
He brings the main idea in the reharsals room, and then we build up the songs, developping his original concept with the addiction of our personal style and taste.
In the next release, you will also find something arriving from the other members.

How would you discribe your music to someone who has never heard about you?

Well, I would stay here 2 weeks describing you how our music is for me eheheh!
Apart from the joke, in a few words I could say Progressive Metal, with heavy riffs and huge symphonic melodies…could it suit??

Now let´s get straight to your latest album „Pathosray“, which made it our Album Of The Week by the way! Please tell us about it´s history of origin...

First of all, we‘d like to thank you very much for having this possibility, and also thanks all your readers for the big support!
Well, we started working on this material in 2005, when, with a new line-up, we had to make some new songs in order to record a new fresh demo.
So, we worked hard, a lot of reharsals, and then, after one year and a lot of gigs played everywhere (pubs, festivals, competitions…), we started recording the „Deathless Crescendo“ demo, in early 2006.
In that summer, we decided to enter the Angel‘s Wings studio, here in Italy, for the full-lenght! We were ready with the 4 demo songs, and 2 taken from the old one, all renewed and rearranged in detail!
And the rest is history…ehehe!

How did you manage to work with such great names like Tommy Hansen or Mattias Norén on your very first album?

It was very easy for us! The contact to them was made through our management; Intromental.
Even if we had to work in long distance, it was great anyway.
Both Tommy and Mattias are first of all good men, and so it was simple and funny for us to work with them.
They made perfect stuffs and we were easily satified, cause we known that we were working with such great prof guys, who made the history our fav music, one with the mixer and the other with artworks!

In my review I couldn´t help comparing „Pathosray“ with Dream Theater´s outstanding work „Images And Words“ (in a positive way of course), because of the arrangements, the extraordinary vocals and the overall-sound. Did you gain to step into the footsteps of DT or how would you explain these similarities?

Hey man, you took my fav album ever!!
It‘s such a huge honour!!
I cannot tell you how much i‘m happy to hear these words!!
Perhaps the reason is that both albums are not so long, they‘re complete in arrangements (from heavy things to mellow ones…) and they‘re a sort of „best of“, cause all the tracks could pefectly sand alone…but I&W is always I&W :D

Do you have a favorite track on the CD? Which one would it be?

I can say that I surely love all the tracks!!
They‘re all different from each others and every song has a story behind it, also linked to some periods of my life…

What about your current live activities?

At the moment, we‘re planning something with our management, but nothing I can tell you in detail.
We would like to plan some tours around Europe, in order to promote the album as well, before we go and play at PPUSA IX in Atlanta, USA!

Which are the bands you would like to play with?

Well..a lot of bands of course!!
Just some names: Symphony X, Evergrey, Kamelot, P.o.S., Fates Warning, Pagan‘s Mind, Opeth…and much more!!!

Please tell us about your best gig so far…

Maybe it was at NewAge rock club in Roncade (TV, Italy), in 2005, it was a competition festival, but we had a perfect stage, great sound engeneers and we kicked asses!!!
Unfortunately we didn‘t win the competition!! Ehehe, but it doesn‘t matter!!

How would you describe the metal scene in Italy?

We have great names here in Italy, like Novembre, Vision Divine, Labyrinth and so on…so I think the metal scene, for what concerns the bands, is alive!! But maybe it‘s too hard playing and getting live dates, cause cover bands are fulfilled the whole pubs!! I hope with the album to play better and more than in the past…

Thanks for your time, Fabio. Please leave a few final words for our readers…

Thnx again for this interview and we hope you enjoyed our album!!
Also hope to see you all soon in a live situation!!!
