Your Album „Hallucinations“ is out now for almost a month – how ist the feedback so far?

The feedback is extremely good actually, I’m very happy with the feedback. I was not actually thinking that we would get so good feedback. A lot positive feedback that we got so far. Of course it’s critics the other way also but the most of the critics are positive.

How ist the work for your new album going?

The new album is almost unwritten. We are doing some parallel projects so it’s more difficult to find the time for recording. We try to go a little further than the last album – a little longer songs, but we try to keep the same vibe that the first album had and we try to move a little to the next level.

As you’ve announced you plan to introduce singer Rick Holmen to your fans in the new album. Why did you choose to introduce a singer while „Hallucinations“ was an instrumental album?

That’s true. We thought it was a very natural step forward and you can do singing in a lot of ways. Traditionally you can do the songs with one vocals and so on, but you can also make big choirs and so on – that makes a very big sound and makes a very good mood that we want to keep in a song. And then we feel that we don’t distance us so long from the first listener. I feel it’s a natural development.

So you’re trying to keep the style from the first album and integrate the singing into it.

Yeah that’s true. To be honest we have a lot of material, we have so much material so that we can sit and choose what we want to have so we have a little luxurious problem (laughs) so to say.We have several ways of doing this now: We could make a new instrumental album if we want and we could have vocals. So we’re actually sitting and thinking : „Should we do a lot of vocal, or should we do the vocal songs as another project?“ That’s an open question. It’s a bit of luxury we have been so creative lately. So it’s been very nice – all this feedback and so on had given us so much energy to go on really hard to do more things and I think that we have very good things to come up with. Of course I like „Hallucinations“, I love this album – I couldn’t do it differently, but that was that album and we have to move further (laughs).

So could it be that, although the next album is going to be with a singer, a later album could again be an instrumental album, because you have enough material?
Yeah that’s true.

Aren’t you a bit afraid that the fans of „Hallucinations“ now wouldn’t like the new album because of the vocal parts?

Of course we try to keep the sound of SOUNDBORNE - there are also some borders that we want to be inside although it’s very wide within the borders - we have a lot of different music. Peolpe listen to Progressive Rock for example, because they like that music is changing. So I think we are not doing so great changes that we will need a new group of listeners. I think we still are inside the same frame of music.

OK. Have you already planned any concerts yet?

No, we have been very hard working on the following music and it has been a lot of work during the realease of „Hallucinations“ as well. It’ so much work that we didn’t have time yet to do it live.

Is it also a bit of a problem that you are all playing in diffrent bands as well?

That’s true. For example Lasse, the Keyboarder, was on tour with SYMPHONY X lately, and he was touring all Europe with his band CIRCUS MAXIMUS. And Morten, the bass player, has been to America playing for another band. Thre’s a lot of activity within the band also, but that doesn’t stop SOUNBORNE anyhow. Things just take a little more time and we have to plan a little further.

Have you planned changes within the line-up?

There will be a new drummer for the new album. Torkil from PREMACY decided that it’s too much for him to have a lot of projects. So we’ll have a new drummer – we have actually a lot of talented peolpe who want to join, but we haven’t decided yet which one we will choose.

Could you give us a hint when the new album is going to be released aproximately?

No, it’s very hard for me to give a date, because, since we haven’t started recording yet, some many things can happen during the recording. So it’s very dangerous to introduce a date. Things can happen during the recording – it can happen that the guy that’s mixing the album gets sick and we have to find a new one, which takes a lot of time. So before we are recording it we cannot come out with a date, but I guess the target is to get something finished within this year, or in the first month of the next year.

I understand. By the way, how’s PREMACY going?

PREMACY is not going at all actually. To be honest we have decided to stop the band. There happened a lot of things in the band – we have actually recorded an album for PREMACY, but Thomas, the singer, has this very big problem with his back. He was born with this problem and then he had an accident with his snowboard and couldn’t work for four years now. He had a lot of surgeries and so on and while we were recording the PREMACY album it was too hard for him to be in the studio every day standing by the mic and singing, because that was a too big challenge for his back. For me his voice is one of the best voices around here, but when he can’t perform like he wants to do it’s very hard to do our project. It was a very sad moment for him, that he couldn’t help us any more on the vocals. We tried out a couple of new singers, but it wasn’t the same – they weren’t on the same level. And then we felt like this project hasn’t got the right to live any more (laughs). I mean one of the most important things is that the vocals are carrying the band. For example IRON MAIDEN: Actually Paul Di’Anno was a great vocal, but when Bruce Dickinson came along and put a new level to the band. And then when Blaze Bayley started after him the popularity of the band went totally down. They were playing in a concert hall for 400 people (laughs). It was all about the vocalists, OK maybe the didn’t make the best songs in this period, but it was a lot about not having a good frontman. The singer is so important and that’s what we felt for PREMACY as well. Thomas has left us because of his problems and we have lost the key figure of the band. And to do the songs with another person didn’t feel right at all. I would like to make a band in the same style of PREMACY, but then it’s going to be a totally new thing with a new vocalist.

The good thing ist that you can now concentrate on SOUNDBORNE.

Yeah that’s true. As I said we have so much material fort his SOUNDBORNE album that we introduce a band that’s much more progressive, maybe a little harder with more Metal inside. That’s something I’m working on very hard right now.

Well thanks for the interview and I really look forward to hear more from SOUNDBORNE.

Thanks. And you will. I’m very proud of this first album and of working with peolpe like Daniel Bergstrand. To work with a guy who has such insight of what he’s doing is totally good. And it’s going to be even better on the next album to show everyone what we are doing.

Well good luck and I hope we are soon going to hear from you.

There’s no doubt on this (laughs). And we will come to germany, that’s for sure. But as said, we can’t give a date right now, but Germany is a very important country for us and it surely will be one of the first places we’ll come to visit and play.

Well perhaps you could also hopp across the border to Austria?

Of course!

OK! Thanks for the interview!
